Walnut

  • Origin: Eastern North America
  • Hardness: Tough hardwood with a medium density
  • Grade: Select
  • Characteristics: Generally straight-grained though sometimes wavy or curly grain. Creamy white light brown to dark chocolate brown.
  • Description: Walnut is hand selected to minimize color variations, pitch pockets, and pin knots. Panels will have larger stave pieces that are hand-selected for color and grain match. Expect sap wood, some pitch pockets and pin knots on the face with more on the backs. Darker stains blend these variations and characteristics together but, in lighter stains, these variations can remain obvious, giving a more natural look. Walnut lightens in color when exposed to light.
